Education Commission facilitates opportunities for all ages, during Worship, through Second Hour, and with a variety of small groups for youth and adults.
Children’s Worship:
Children’s Worship happens during the service. Children age 4-8 are invited to head up to the Loft (up the stairs out the left doors at the front of the sanctuary), leaving after the children’s time and returning at 11:10. We use a Montessori-based approach (Godly Play) to introduce children to Sacred Story and help them explore and deepen their faith through wonder and play. The most fundamental value is the belief that children have an innate sense of the presence of God. They do not need us to “teach them what to think.” Our role is simply to create a space that honors and trusts their own unique spiritual lives. We listen to a story together, wonder about it, and then have an opportunity to reflect through painting, drawing, blocks, and even legos.
Please note that nursery is offered for children through age 5, but beginning at age 4 they are invited to Children’s Worship. This overlap is to honor the fact that not all children are interested in a structured story time, and may prefer the free play of nursery. This is completely at the discretion of parents!
